If you’re into trains, Switzerland is your paradise. Take for example the historic Rhaetian Railway: It crosses the Swiss Alps through two passes and links Thusis, in canton Graubünden, and Tirano, in Italy. Along its 128 km, the Rhaetian Railway features an impressive set of structures including 55 tunnels and covered galleries and 196 viaducts and bridges. Its construction, in the early 20th century, strongly influenced the economic, social and cultural development in the Alpine region.
The Albula and Bernina lines between Thusis and Tirano are among the most spectacular narrow gauge railways in the world and are part of the UNESCO World Heritage.
